WHAT IS BIOETHANOL?

A Biofuel Produced by Fermentation

Bioethanol - A Biofuel

Bioethanol is an alcohol produced for various purposes, including fuel. It is made through the fermentation of sugars or starchy crops. These can come from easily convertible sugar sources such as sugarcane, corn, or crops like grains.

Today, bioethanol has many applications and is used in car fuel, as well as in the production processes of the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

Last but not least, bioethanol is also used as fuel for Decoflame's bioethanol fireplaces.

Clean Emission

During combustion, bioethanol is converted into water and carbon dioxide (CO2). The carbon dioxide is absorbed by plants, which take it up through photosynthesis and use it to grow. This endless cycle of energy creation and combustion – in a way, the recycling of energy – makes bioethanol a carbon-neutral fuel.

Storage and Handling

Bioethanol is classified as a flammable liquid, UN1170, class 3 PGII for transport, and it is subject to various standards worldwide.

Before using a Decoflame bioethanol fireplace, it is important to familiarize yourself with and adhere to these regulations for the safe and legal storage, handling, refilling, and use of the fuel.

It is also crucial that bioethanol is stored out of reach of children and that local regulations are followed.

Efficient Energy

Bioethanol is an alcohol product that is easily ignitable, and due to its clean combustion, there is no need for costly expenses related to vents, chimneys, and maintenance.

Bioethanol Vs. Denatured Bioethanol

In accordance with various global regulations, 100% pure bioethanol cannot be sold due to concerns about human consumption.

Therefore, bioethanol is denatured with various substances for retail purposes. Bioethanol is marketed under names such as Denatured Ethanol, Methylated Spirits, Denatured Alcohol, and similar.

Bioethanol & Decoflame Fireplaces

All Decoflame bioethanol fireplaces must be fuelled with bioethanol that has a minimum purity of 96.5% and a maximum of 97.5%.

We recommend using Decoflame quality bioethanol with an alcohol content of 96.5%. See the datasheet for details.

Using bioethanol with a lower ethanol content can cause odour problems and in the worst case damage your bioethanol fireplace. It is also important that there are no other additives in the bioethanol, such as fragrances and flavourings.
